I just discovered that sound works on the headsets but not the laptop speakers.

After installing Ubunto 10.10 on my laptop, sound was not working properly. Thanks to Ubuntu forums and lidex, I could get it working. I am the OP of this thread.
I recently found out...
options snd-hda-intel model=ideapad
works.

Update:
In Sound Preferences, Hardware tab, when I select Analog Stereo Duplex or Analog Stereo Output, the jack works. But the internal speakers don't with any profile.
I followed all the steps you mentioned.
After adding the line
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop position_fix=1 enable=yes
in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
The jack also stopped...
