    Re: Ubuntu studio software removal?

There's absolutely no harm in removing the meta packages ubuntustudio-*, since that will not remove any of their dependencies.

A meta package in itself is emtpy, such as the package...
  2. [ubuntu_studio] Re: upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 but Ardour2 not removed

No need to remove ardour2. For Ubuntu Studio 13.10, having both is intentional.

    [ubuntu_studio] Re: kernel upgrade

The Saucy kernel is 3.11.0.x.x, which is the one you want. It's being continuously updated, every three weeks usually.
You can either get Ubuntu Studio 3.10, or just the kernel from Ubuntu saucy...
  4. Re: Best kernel tweak for Multimedia server + multiple connections?

linux-lowlatency is not optimal for servers. So, I would recommend to try using linux-generic instead.
  5. Re: Jack does not show multiple capture devices

It is possible to use multiple devices, but that doesn't work by default. You can read more about that here http://jackaudio.org/multiple_devices.

  9. [ubuntu_studio] Re: puredata keeps borking out on me and U.studio crashes to login screen

I've read about it on the pure data mail list. Seems to be a graphical bug(graphic driver bug, if I remember correctly), which is nor directly related to pd-extended.
  10. [ubuntu_studio] Re: Having install problems after letting install run unattended

Just reboot the computer, and redo the installation.

This might sound like a joke, but it is actually one way to safely shutdown and reboot your Linux OS.
    First press Shift+Ctrl+Alt+PrintScreen....
  11. [all variants] Re: Live USB Ubuntu Studio Crashed - Saved data vanished??

Saving onto the live usb will not save files permanently. The home folder is virtual, living in RAM only.

In order to be able to save onto the usb stick, one needs to create a separate partition...

[ubuntu_studio] Re: Pulse audio volume control and xfce mixer

There could very well be a regression in the release of pulseaudio 3.0. So, what you could do is file a bug report. Get yourself a launchpad account at https://launchpad.net, and then, in a terminal,...

[ubuntu_studio] Re: Pulse audio volume control and xfce mixer

pulseaudio mixers don't have all of the hardware controls. They only have controls for the pulseaudio specific stuff, which is partly an abstraction above the ALSA interface. Yes, it is a bit on an...
  15. “pulseaudio fails to release card to jack” fixed for releases 12.04 and 12.10

Users may have noticed that it has been troublesome getting jack to start with a card already used by pulseaudio. The latest pulseaudio update straightens that problem out.

    This is the bug...
  16. [ubuntu_studio] Re: Yet Skype cannot be installed...either 32 or 64 bits.

this is a PPA, and most probably the one that causes you problems ubuntu-wine-ppa-precise.list.

If you want to give it a shot, it means removing the latest wine.

    You need to remove...
  17. [ubuntu_studio] Re: Yet Skype cannot be installed...either 32 or 64 bits.

I'm not being vague. It's just impossible for me to know how you have changed your system.

  18. [ubuntu_studio] Re: Yet Skype cannot be installed...either 32 or 64 bits.

Uncommenting a line in a configuration file usuall means removing the "#" or the ";" that it begins with. Commented lines are not read.

You've probably installed something, perhaps from a PPA....
  19. [ubuntu_studio] Re: Linux Audio - Not measuring up in high-end playback.

No, realtime kernels are designed to make sure processes are completed in time. Or, that realtime process are completed in time. Which means, other processes will have to wait.

  20. [ubuntu_studio] Re: Yet Skype cannot be installed...either 32 or 64 bits. Please help.

    Then, do:

  21. [ubuntu_studio] Re: Linux Audio - Not measuring up in high-end playback.

I don't believe this to be true. Show me some proof.

What is involved is CPU clock, drivers, etc. Not latency. Low latency just means there's a bigger chance the process might not finish in time....
  22. [ubuntu_studio] Re: Linux Audio - Not measuring up in high-end playback.

Latency will not affect audio quality. Less latency just gives the computer less time to complete its computation of the audio process.
So, for audio playback, large latency is preferred over low,...

[ubuntu_studio] Re: D-BUS: JACK server could not be started
