Ah, thanks. looks like the BASIC-eque syntax allows you to pipe in your input, then parse though it line by line. my attempt was a bit sloppier, just dumping the full iwlist output into a python...

hi all, just FYI, i had a very similar problem. I ran the scripts posted above, and found that the script outputted 3 drives and i only had two physical drives.
I've done a big load of googling/forum scouring for this, with no success quite yet, so I'm posting up my unique occurrence.
Objective: allow ubuntu installer to see my /dev/sdax disk...
