[all variants] Re: Jammed with sendmail and PHP mail

Install postfix. Sendmail should have been installed already. Postfix is a drop in replacement for sendmail, which is quite old and difficult to configure. Your CMS should work without too many...

[ubuntu] Re: USB 128 GB Stick

I don't see what all the fuss is over boot time since my servers rarely, if ever get booted unless I need to make a kernel level change. Once you are booted, if you have enough RAM, you are not...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: website not accessible from some external networks

You don't need to relinquish your hosting. I host all mu stuff at home and lease a block of 8 IPs from my ISP for $15 a month. Remember, your ISP probably isn't the only one available in your area....
  6. [ubuntu] Re: website not accessible from some external networks

This is because most corparate networks and even some ISPs block traffic that is redirected in certain ways. I have been saying this for years and yet there are some people who still don't believe it...

[SOLVED] Re: serving HTML5 with apache2?

You didn't put the style sheet in the directory, it's NOT an Apache issue. You need to put all .css files in the directory with the html. Apache will serve anything you want it to, it doesn't care...

  10. [ubuntu] Re: USB stick detected but not visible & created in /dev/

You can also try restarting famd. Remove the stick and try:

    sudo /etc/init.d/fam restart

Then insert your stick again and see what happens.

  11. [ubuntu] Re: USB stick detected but not visible & created in /dev/

First try formatting the stick on another machine with FAT32.

If that doesn't work plug in the usb stick. Here is the command I would use assuming you have only one usb storage device.

  12. [ubuntu] Re: Fail2 ban support for Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS

This appears to be an SELinux bug. If you have SELinux enabled, try disabling it.

To disable the SELinux permanently, modify the /etc/selinux/config and set the SELINUX=disabled as shown below....

[ubuntu] Re: PHP script permission issue.

You can do this in PHP but I'm not sure you would want to for security reasons. Can you give us a bit more info as to what exactly you are trying to do and I may have some more suggestions.

Herman's solution would be another good solution in my opinion. You could try both and see which one you like best.

[ubuntu] Re: uploading files to apache

What works great for me and is secure is WinSCP. You can just drag and drop the files in ******* and it even lets you edit permisssions and ownership. Great tool and free too.
