You won't have very much choices besides avidemux because it is probally the best on out. There are some online video converters but it defeats the purpose of your post I guess.

My latest one makes it easy for me to use linux, probally because my good computer still has XP and when I go into programming im not going to do anything with linux unless it somehow hacks its way...

Im pretty sure that the VESA driver dosent support 3d acceleration so I think that you arent going to have anymore luck. Install all of these packages and see what happes after reboot.
