[SOLVED] Re: Memory leak in Compiz & Unity-Scope-Home

Just to add a bit more info to this post. Uninstalling unity-scope-clementine helped massively, but even so, Compiz still crept up from 40mb to about 250mb.
So I reset unity/compiz back to factory...

    Re: Restore Clonezilla image

In my experience with Clonezilla, you have to restore to the same named partition that you cloned from.
For eg. my Ubuntu 12.04.4 system was cloned on partition sda5. So even if I restore it on an a...
  4. Re: LibreOffice crashes - even on new user profile

I've not been able to get on with LibreOffice since version 3.5.7. Crashes, freezes & the like.
So I completely purged LO, & installed OpenOffice from here:

[SOLVED] Memory leak in Compiz & Unity-Scope-Home

Been testing 14.04 now for about 6 weeks, & the issue of High memory, particularly in Compiz still remains.
I have attached a screenshot of my system monitor.
In 12.04 memory used by compiz was...

I think more info would be helpful.
What version of kubuntu are you using?
Is this a pure kubuntu install? or have you installed kde on top of another ubuntu variant?

    Re: Problem duplicating Audio CD

While I have found Brasero ok, looking at the forums many have had problems with it.
The Burner of choice always seems to be k3b, although on Ubuntu it will drag in with it quite a lot of KDE...

    Re: Problem duplicating Audio CD

What version of Ubuntu are you using?
It works fine for me on 12.04 using Brasero & the Disc Copy option.
Just as a starting point, you could open up Brasero, go to edit/plugins & make sure all the...

[kubuntu] Re: Thunderbird url links do not work

When the dialog box opens you need to navigate to /usr/bin/firefox or chromium, then tick the box to use that browser for all http/https links.

    Re: Brasero headachessssss

Someone may need to correct me here, but I don't think you can just burn compressed format videos to DVD & hope they will play in a normal DVD player.
You should be able to burn them with Brasero as...

Re: new ubuntu user here/ trouble with playing media

If all plays well on Windows XP, then I doubt it is a computer problem.
It is still most likely a hardware compatibility problem if you have installed all the relevant codecs.
    If you are looking...
  13. [kubuntu] Re: Removing unnecessary programs, or at least disabling them

You could just try removing the programs one at a time, & see if it is any specific program that is attempting to remove the whole KDE Desktop. Other than suggest that I can't really help as I do not...
  14. [kubuntu] Re: Removing unnecessary programs, or at least disabling them

As Buzzingrobot says, is seems that nearly the whole KDE Desktop is being removed in your case, & would render your system useless.
Very strange that after a clean install on your system it wants to...

Re: new ubuntu user here/ trouble with playing media

    That should be...
  16. [kubuntu] Re: Removing unnecessary programs, or at least disabling them

    @bjngchn..

    The command
sudo apt-get remove --purge rekonq kmail ktorrent kontact removes 19 files, NONE of which are system files.
I have just done it again on a fresh install of 13.10, &...
  17. [kubuntu] Re: Removing unnecessary programs, or at least disabling them

You do need to be very careful what you remove. I suspect akonadi & kwallet are an integral part of the kde desktop.
All you can do is try removing things 1 by 1 in a terminal as in the command I...
  18. [kubuntu] Re: Removing unnecessary programs, or at least disabling them

On a clean install of kubuntu, the 1st thing I do is:

sudo apt-get remove --purge kontact kmail ktorrent rekonq
It doesn't compromise the rest of the system at all.

[ubuntu] Re: How to get login sound back

    gksudo gedit /usr/share/gnome/autostart/libcanberra-login-sound.desktop
Then change autostart enabled to true, & save the file.
Log out & back in again, & you should have login sound back.

  22. Re: why is XFBurn quality superior to K3B or Brasero?

I have no audio mode for my internal cd writer, it is as is.
I checked what programs xfburn, brasero & k3b use for burning, & unless someone can correct me they're all the same, wodim/cdrdao.
    I...
  23. Re: why is XFBurn quality superior to K3B or Brasero?

    Hi tgalati4,
Thanks for your response. It's definitely not burn speed. I always set that to 16x, the lowest I can.
I am interested in your audio/data quality idea though.
    Would you know where I...
  24. why is XFBurn quality superior to K3B or Brasero?

Here's the situation. I dual boot Ubuntu/Kubuntu. So use both Brasero & k3b. I download a lot of music (legally) & burn to disc to play in my car.
For a while I noticed that the sound quality wasn't...

    Re: DVD Burner Hardware

ImgBurn does work fairly well under Wine, although it is limited to mp3 when burning music.
IMO, Brasero & k3b do equally good a job quality wise, without having to drag in all the extra...
