  1. [ubuntu] Re: [SOLVED] lfd.log file changed permissions & broke logcheck reporting

I found that the issue was with logrotate. When it rotated the lfd.log file it lost read permissions from the adm group. I entered in a custom section into logrotate.conf and that did the trick.
  2. [ubuntu] [SOLVED] lfd.log file changed permissions & broke logcheck reporting

After getting spammed errors from logcheck (99.99% of them going to my junk folder) for over a month, I dug around to find out what was causing the issue with logcheck not able to send me reports. I...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: 12.04 - Deleted /bin, mostly recovered but still having issues

Is sed required for installing packages using apt-get? I know doing dpkg I get an error listed in my original post.

I'm worried I'm stuck in a catch-22 situation where I need sed working to...
  4. [ubuntu] 12.04 - Deleted /bin, mostly recovered but still having issues

My server is running 12.04 and is a server at home running DNS, smb shares, CrashPlan, Rsnapshot, FTP, SoftEther VPN Server, and Plex. A bit of a jack of all trades.

After 6+ years of using Ubuntu...

[ubuntu] Re: LVM Snapshots vs rsnapshot

That does. I'm not running any databases on the server so then I really don't need to use LVM snapshots. I guess the only time I would do one is before I make massive changes to the system or before...

    [ubuntu] LVM Snapshots vs rsnapshot

I am just starting to play around with LVM and I was curious about best practice for backups.

I have been using rsnapshot for years and it has never failed me. Now with using LVM, should I still...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: SAMBA Authentication Issues from Windows workstation/server

I'm thinking Webmin is the issue. I just created a vm and creating everything from scratch by hand, no webmin and it worked. I think I'll scrap the users and the current samba settings on the...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: SAMBA Authentication Issues from Windows workstation/server

I'm fine just using the conf file for setting this up and not webmin. None of the computers on the network are having any problems finding the server. Also the server will be used as the dns server...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: SAMBA Authentication Issues from Windows workstation/server

Yes, I created the users on the system first, and then used the "Convert Unix users to Samba users" in Webmin.

Do I need to have them as regular linux users, or can they just be samba users?

    I...

[ubuntu] Re: Server Hardware for a Client

Why don't you want to do the rsnapshot to the drive directly? I've been using rsnapshot for several years now to a USB connected drive without issues.
