    Um I was getting this error message when I was trying to run root (as in CERN's ROOT). And got it working by setting:
    export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0
    before running root.

    Actually I just noticed that the bug doesnt exist when using the unmaximise window button at the top right .. but it does exist when double clicking on the title bar to achieve the same effect.
