Sorry for the delay I have done as you ask and the keyboard does not respond could it be that the usb port that does work is the one I have installed the keyboard on initially

Thanks for your patience the keyboard only works in the the port I had moved it to on your request initially, that is in fact only 1 out of 6, the other ports work with everything else so in my...

What I mean is the screen that has ubuntu and windows xp in a list of selections at this point the keyboard would not operate but when ubuntu automatically started to boot the keyboard...
To explain myself a bit better the keboard and mouse did work before when ubuntu had booted up it was just that I had no control of the dual boot at start up

Help please after upgrading from hardy heron 8.04 to 8.10 the usb keyboard does not work on start up so I have no choice in which system boots up can anyone help please

I thank you all for your assistance I have now run picasa successfully finding it applications/graphics as mrWES suggested.I also used the command supplied by Sarfarazkazi I got all the information...
