Re: How do I make this go away?

You hit bug and bug, that were recently identified.

Disabling the messages is very hard and requires Python code changes in the file "/usr/lib/update-notifier/apt_check.py" (see here), but those...

[ubuntu] Re: Replacing Ubuntu kernel on Pi 4B

    Hi @MAFoElffen,

Let me quickly chime in on the Ubuntu Pro support for ARM and especially for RPi.

Supported architectures eligible for Ubuntu Pro are stated on this page.

    It states:...

Sticky: [ubuntu] Re: Meltdown and Spectre Discussion Sticky

I checked all my computers for vulnerability to Spectre and Meltdown with the spectre-meltdown-checker. Three were vulnerable. Which led me to the following challenge. For my rig with with a 64 bit...

Sticky: [ubuntu] Re: Zenbleed bug - the Meltdown and Spectre nightmare continues

Thank you for your reply, can you get specific about the AMD 5700U SoC / CPU?

I always thought that micro code updates arrived in sealed blobs by Intel for Intel CPU's and assumed the same held...

Sticky: [ubuntu] Zenbleed bug - the Meltdown and Spectre nightmare continues

On July 25th 2023 Tavis Ormandy, a member of Google's Project Zero security team, disclosed a bug in many of AMD's newer consumer, workstation, and server processors. It is an encryption-breaking,...
  8. [xubuntu] Re: Elantech touchpad frozen after resume from suspend

Seemingly no-one knows what can be done.
It's time to log a bug I think.
Where should I log one that is related to hardware / evdev / elantech touchpad recognition?
    And what information should I...
  9. [xubuntu] Re: Elantech touchpad frozen after resume from suspend

I see stack traces in dmesg:

    /build/linux-hwe-JBRI_s/linux-hwe-4.10.0/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_atomic_helper.c:784 drm_atomic_helper_update_legacy_modeset_state [drm_kms_helper]

    Summarizing dmesg:
The problem is that the touchpad hardware is wrongly recognized after resume from suspend as:

[xfce] Re: Wondering about XUbuntu and SSDs

Do you need a Seria ATA interface for an SSD (my laptop has a (mini) IDE interface).
  12. [xubuntu] Re: Suspend freezes the computer at wakeup

I just found out that *Buntu 16.04 is the first LTS version that switched from upstart to systemD. The old System V style intit was never even completely transferred. I noticed it by accident,...
  13. Re: Touchpad stop working after shutting the lip

Disabling lightdm didn't make a difference in my case.
Left-clicking once or twice sometimes unfreezes the keyboard, but not the touch-pad.

[SOLVED] Re: Keyboard freeze after wake up

I'm glad you were able to fix it and thanks for sharing.

[SOLVED] Re: Keyboard freeze after wake up

    Hi foxreymann,

Are you sure that it is only the keyboard? I'm also experiencing a frozen keyboard after resume from suspend, but that is triggered / caused by using the touchpad. Can you try to...
  16. Re: Touchpad stop working after shutting the lip

You could test that by configuring not to lock the screen when the lid is closed. Then close the lid and see if the touchpad is frozen.
  17. [xubuntu] Re: Suspend freezes the computer at wakeup

The BIOS is as patched as it'll ever get. No new updates come out any more. Heck it worked with Buntus 5 - 12.

    Doing:

    sudo modprobe -r psmouse
    sudo modprobe psmouse

    fixes the problem....
  18. [xubuntu] Re: Suspend freezes the computer at wakeup

I wasted a DVD in order to test 17.04 and the same problems persist.
I tested with the XUbuntu 17.04 live DVD
and also tested it with the XUbuntu 16.04.2 live DVD.

    I've attached both dmesg...
  19. Re: Touchpad stop working after shutting the lip

    Hi kazakore,

I'm also experiencing Synaptic problems on Xubuntu 16.04. You could try the following when the touchpad is kaput.

    $ sudo modprobe -r psmouse
    $ sudo modprobe psmouse
  20. [xubuntu] Re: Suspend freezes the computer at wakeup

Where can I find the XUbuntu Xorg experts?
  23. [xubuntu] Re: Suspend freezes the computer at wakeup

Would it be possible to make a hardcoded Xorg config file to correct the detection problem after resume from suspend?

    Currently I find the following:

  24. [xubuntu] Re: Suspend freezes the computer at wakeup

Is there an Xorg expert in the house that can have a look at the touchpad / mouse driver logging from above?
  25. [xubuntu] Re: Suspend freezes the computer at wakeup

There seems to be more to it than touchpad recognition.
I just resumed from suspend and did a manual

    sudo modprobe -r psmouse
    sudo modprobe psmouse

I noticed in dmesg that firstly after...
