Re: All Users Samba Share Stopped Working

Well, seem to have it cracked. Seemed to be a permissions problem on the directory itself. Was pretty sure nothing could have changed there, but clearly it did.

    Thanks again,

Re: All Users Samba Share Stopped Working

    Hi Bab1,

    Thanks for the help.

I didn't post much additional information because I suspected it must be an update problem as it was working and I'm fairly sure that nothing has changed since...

All Users Samba Share Stopped Working

    Hi,

I'm stumped with a samba problem. I've got a share defined like this that has worked fine for years but after a recent update no longer allows anybody to connect. Any ideas?

  4. Re: Potential Desktop Purchase - Any Worries?

Thanks for the further advice everybody. I'll probably have to go with 13.04 as I need them running early October.

I think the certified models are too limited and it is hard enough to find a...
  5. Re: Potential Desktop Purchase - Any Worries?

    Hi Caboose,

Thanks for the info. I've just assumed my normal (old-timer) identity after messing up my Ubuntu One account.

I'm buying a few machines for my workplace so I'm keen not to run into...
  6. [all variants] Re: sshd to Putty - generating private key on server

    Cool.

Steeldriver is right you should be able to do it by copying the private key amongst all the client machines. I hadn't heard of anyone doing this before though and I was definitely wrong...
  7. [all variants] Re: sshd to Putty - generating private key on server

Actually the terms "keys" and "certificates" are frequently used to mean the same thing. Try googling "ssh certificate" for example.

The simple answer is that you can't do what you want to do....
  8. [all variants] Re: DHCP Server Conditional Processing Problems

Good idea! I'll give that a try at some point and report back.

Any other ideas or alternative approaches still gratefully received.
  9. [all variants] Re: sshd to Putty - generating private key on server

Pretty sure it is. You need unique certificates on each machine so even if you could do it the other way round you'd still have the same amount of work.
  10. [all variants] Re: sshd to Putty - generating private key on server

There is a ssh-keygen tool that you should already have installed. Works just the same as the Windows one however you are supposed to generate the keys on the client and it just doesn't work the...
  11. [all variants] DHCP Server Conditional Processing Problems

    Hi

I run a network with two DSL gateways/routers and I'm wanting to configure some of my devices to use one gateway and others to use the other. I've had the idea of running a customised DHCP...

[kubuntu] USB Install on HP 2133 Mini

I'm trying to install Kubuntu on a HP2133 and I'm slowly being driven mad.

  20. [ubuntu] Re: Making Ubuntu ask Me for password everytime I use sudo or open a program as root?

You need to edit your /etc/sudoers file and add a timestamp_timeout setting. See the man page for sudoer for more info.

    Cheers!

Re: Is Java really worth it?

Hmm, Java webapps aren't really that much harder than LAMP stuff. It's mainly the illusion that what you are familiar with is simpler than what you are not.

I think there are a few Java experts...
