    the second optical drive is probably being mounted as /dev/sr1 , check dmes output and adjust /etc/fstab to match.

    as a test I would remove the two entries for /dev/scd0 and /dev/scd1
    and then replace then with just one entry of /dev/sr0 for now

    perhaps disconnect one drive altogether and concentrate on the...

    well , /dev/sr0 is being mounted and looks like your DVD drive but is not described in /etc/fstab , it also shows a lot of errors , is the hardware working OK ?

    paste in the output from the mount...

    could you post the output from dmesg after connecting the USB devices and / or putting in a CD/DVD , thanks.

    yep its still happening.

    I recently changed pc and reinstalled ubuntu 8.04 from scratch , the exact same network problems after about 24 hours.

    fixed it the same way by restarting the moblock...

    I think I may have found the culprit.

    Instead of restarting the PC I restarted the moblock service and the problem has disappeared , I think I may have found a bug! :)
