"10 seconds"? HOW!?!
I have a new install (today) and it takes 38 seconds from I hit enter at the grub menu until I see the complete desktop (auto login).
That's almost 4 times the ad, and I...
Ah, thanks!
I'll have a look at my security settings, but your suggestion about using my name as sender seems the most plausible. For one thing I've never heard of the person in the to-field, the...
Hi
I received this Message Delivery Failure email: http://pastebin.com/JLAYbSSJ
It looks like it claims the original email came from me:

At some point an upgrade fixed this issue - allthough the batteries took a hit. Now the problem is back.
I think it has something to do with Intel drives and sandy bridge boards.
Seems there is an issue where installing wine includes Windows fonts. Most web pages tell the browser to attempt to use windows fonts first (verdana, etc) and then whatever it likes afterwards.

Perhaps this will make you able to get your files:
Download and create a bootable live CD:

I have a laptop that I used to be connected to the network by wire. It booted down when I yanked to power supply. I achieved this by making
/etc/acpi/events/battery

I'm using Lubuntu on a laptop that I wish to SSH-into from another computer to remote control mplayer on the commandline. But alsa isn't initialized until I've logged into the GUI, currently LXDE.

Reinstalled compiz-stuff and deleted compiz profile settings. Noe the user that didn't have any effects, got Unity 3D back. Still Unity 2d for the main user.
This is sooo buggy.
I opened CCSM in a user where unity 3d was working and tried to export configuration. That caused unity to stop working in that user as well.
When I tried to run "unity...
So new account it is?
I've upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10. Unity 3D works for one account, but not for my primary.
When I try unity --reset, I get this: http://pastebin.com/8SbwYVff
Then it runs both 3D and 2D (so...
Could not log in to account
Fixed with: sudo dpkg --configure -a
Now I'm working on getting Unity 3D to work on all accounts, not just one :)
Btw: I've tried unity --reset
But ... I don't know what to put in it :)
Or what the stuff that is in it now means!
I'd like for the computer to shut down without the need for confirmation when the power source changes to battery.
I found "battery" in /etc/acpi/events/ - Content:

Thanks!
Some very valuable information about SSH.
I'll just shoot in one question:
The sticky mentions that all ports are closed by default in Ubuntu, but wont Firefox, chat and email...
Hi!
I have a network at home with:

Tried Ubuntu Classic instead of Unity just to give it a shot. Still freezes and wheezes.
I tried 2.6.39-0-generic first, but still had issues. So I thought it might be since I had 4 GB memory. Therefor I upgraded to PAE, so now I have: 2.6.39-0-generic-pae - gave me more memory, but...
Are you also using the 2.6.39 kernel? This seems to have fixed it for many. Not me, though. Guess I'm special. :(
This might help: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/03/quick-tip-enable-full-screen-dash-in-natty-desktop/
The /etc/cron.hourly folder is the only cron folder without a 0anacron script file. Seemes odd if that should cause the crash, though.
It froze again. As the previous time, the last ting to occur was cron. But cron has also run between last time and this without any issues.
This issue really puzzles me.

Just ran desktop recording while video transcoding just to use a lot of CPU to see if this was the problem, but the fan escalated nicely.
From acpi -V I'm now getting (while not using much CPU):
