Actually, I don't need help (at least for now). What I'm writing is a guide, should be applicable to 14.04 as well.
Gotta go back home before upgrading my server because the 14.04 installer...
Steps should be pretty similar for other releases as well:
sudo apt-get install -y build-essential wget aptitude libjansson4 gdb strace uuid-dev sqlite3 libsqlite3-dev checkinstall libssl-dev...
Confirmed - after a (failed) upgrade (followed by a clean install) to 14.04 nano seems to be working properly.
Does anyone experience problems over 13.10 and 13.04 nano behaviour? I can't jump to a specific line anymore by using nano +<line_number> <file>. Seems to work without problems in older versions...

Tried installing sopcast-player (which has the same dependency on ia32-libs) with the package provided here - no joy:

In order to get control of the physical console in my experience you need to run a VNC server from within the desktop manager. I've managed to achieve it with RealVNC and GDM but I haven't tried...
After reading 10 000 guides suggesting that pretty much any VNC server should run in Lubuntu I faced issues runnning any of them and getting a proper desktop environment. RealVNC, x11vnc,...
