Personal update: I thought you guys might like to know that I am now experiencing what is essentially the same problem...in Windows 7. Yeah, for some reason the system that was made to run PCs and...
Didn't we go over this? The problem has nothing to do with dust buildup or hardware layout; we're talking about brand-new, straight-out-of-the-box laptops that haven't been used enough to have such...
Yes, you open Terminal and enter the command. You should also try Ubuntu Documentation when looking for answers; the information provided there can be more useful and reliable than the forums.
Use this to check for drivers:
lspci -v | less
Should be under "Graphics controller" or something similar. Depending on your ATI model you'll probably want the FGLRX driver; should be under...
Probably needs the FGLRX acceleration driver. I don't quite remember where to get it, but if there's no ATI-built driver in the system then it's probably not going to run.
Interesting find...I'm especially curious about this since my BIOS comes from AMI. While I don't want to falsely accuse anyone of wrongdoing, it would not surprise me at all to discover this...

Apparently this problem is showing up on multiple models and distros. The current theory is that it's a kernel...

Need more information. Open Terminal and run this command:
lspci -v | less
Look for "Network controller" in the list that comes up and post the details.
Fellow users:
After several weeks of CPU fan problems (specifically the fan not turning on), I've been forced to wipe Ubuntu from my hard disk and re-install Windows 7. Before I go back to...
Well, it seems we have to file a separate bug report anyway. The guy in charge says our problem is different from the one I linked to...also I was wondering if any of this might come from running a...
You don't have to reinstall Ubuntu; you just need the driver for the hardware. Note down the brand name and device number of your card, then do an Internet search for a downloadable version of the...
I don't recommend trying the downgrade. Development is aware of the problem and trying to get it fixed:

Did you check Hardware Drivers to see if your FGLRX was still activated?
Open Applications > Accessories > Terminal and run this:
lspci -v | less
This will give you a comprehensive list of every PCI device built into your machine. Your wireless adapter should be...
Question: are you shutting down your system first and starting it fresh to boot the CD, or are you just restarting the computer? (For reasons beyond my understanding, this makes a difference.)
Open Applications > Accessories > Terminal and run this:
lspci -v | less
This will give a detailed (but not too detailed) list of your hardware. Scroll down to the bottom, where you will find...
You want to tell the rest of us how to do everything you just did? I've been lagging just trying to run Tetris. (And there are other issues that may or may not be related.)
Is your wireless still working in the native system? If not, run "lspci -v | less" and see if the network controller still has its driver; kernel updates seem to have a habit of losing driver...
No problems with solitaire, but have any of you had trouble trying to run Gnometris? Say, the processing speed equivalent of ramming a bullet train into a gargantuan block of molasses?
First, have you checked or been able to check the temperature of your processing unit? (Install acpi from Synaptic and run "acpi -t" in Terminal.)
Second, does the fan turn off after a few seconds...
By touchpad buttons, do you mean the media control strip above the keyboard with play, mute, volume control, etc?
If so, I'm having the same problem. Haven't solved it yet - been too busy working...
A bug report has been filed for this issue:

Another user in a different thread said something about fan control being run through the graphics...
I'm having this problem too; go to bugzilla.kernel.org and see if a report has been filed yet. A bunch of the problems with Karmic right now (suspend, CPU temperature, graphics card) are looking more...
