which I just subscribed a few minutes ago.
I am using the Lucid Lynx.
When I insert an USB stick or even connect my phone by bluetooth, the gnome session instantly dies, with apparently no error message, and I am dropped to the gdm login...

First, I would like to congratulate all the Ubuntu developers and thank them for their hard work. The results of their work are really incredible.
Second, I want to say that I have...
Same here. It takes about 10-20% of CPU, according to top.
"Store" or "Depot" sounds OK to me, and enough internationally intelligible.
Read the logs. They are placed in /var/log/
For example
tail /var/log/syslog
Enter this into terminal :
lshal | grep --color -n10 IR
It should show you something similar to :
blablabla
1175: input.product = 'cx88 IR (Leadtek Winfast 2000XP' (string)
1176- ...
