    Had to remove rico's testing ppa and now everything is fine. Someone should propagate the fix there too I think.

    I still get the nautilus menu bar on top, no shell top panel, no alt+f2, no notification bar at the bottom

    Same here, was on ricotz ppa, got the problem, removed the ppa and went back to ubuntu packages only and until now it was fine. Will read the linked threads. Thanks!

    The top and bottom area (1px) are insensitive to clicks here, maybe compiz related?

    It's a X3500. Doesn't work with latest mesa/xorg/intel driver. Uninstalled the kernel and it works just fine, so it's a kernel bug I guess.

    Recently when plugging in my card reader or my mp3 player I need to authorize the mount, after doing it mounts the device, but read-only, anyone else experiencing this?

    I use intel onboard graphics. Setting swappiness to 0 allows me to get at least 2.7GB of RAM without system freezes, hopefully it will stay this way.
