This chip isn't very good in any linux distro. It maxes out at 18 mb. What can I do to get it to speed up? I know it's capable of 54M rate.
My goal was to keep a cool laptop and decent battery life in ubuntu with an optimus machine. I learned last year about this time, not to install nvidia drivers to accomplish my goal. Installing the...
What kind of battery life are you getting?
I have an xps15 with optimus and wished to use the intel card only. This is what I did recently on ubuntu 11.04. I used the default settings, instead of someone else's profile.
sudo...
When the connection drops, nothing but a shut down and restart gets the connection going. So I blacklisted the driver ar9170usb and now when it drops, a few seconds later it will reconnect. That's...
Have been using a netgear wna1000 since 10.04, using compat wireless and recompiling at every kernel upgrade. Then finally did a fresh install of 10.10 about 2 months ago, but the necessary drivers...
Interfaces will load at every run, as non root.
sudo apt-get install libcap2-bin wireshark
sudo chgrp admin /usr/bin/dumpcap
sudo chmod 750 /usr/bin/dumpcap
sudo setcap...
Would this be possible to set up in Maverick? After bing in suspend mode for a certain period, machine hibernates.
Did you look through the certified hardware link I posted. It really depends on how much you like tweaking ubuntu to get things to work. If not, then get one that uses certified hardware and stay...

Option 2, select the model you're interested in.
On lenovo.com, for non intel wireless, its showing broadcom, atheros, gemtek, liteon
You'll have to do some research on the new models. I did read somewhere that the thinkpads have a bios switch, but cannot confirm. Also, you can get a t410/510 with intel graphics only. I'm...
If I hadn't bought my xps already, I would look at a lenovo t410 or t510. The newer models will be out soon(t420/t520 sandy bridge). I like the x201 for a portable. Comes with icore chips, but...
Unfortunately, you'll be stuck using the intel chip on that machine. You can turn off the nvidia card, but will not be able to use it at this time with ubuntu. You can thank optimus for that.
Anyone have a solution to this?
The one method that I know of, is the script for the Dell alienware m11xr. It does work on the xps machines, you just have be able to decipher all the cryptic information on the web. Oh, and know...
I would think the s76 with nvidia optimus cards would be a huge power hog. How is optimus implemented on these? Are they able to shut down the nvidia gpu?
I see some with this laptop have reported success disabling the gpu in linux using an acpi_call script, so as to reduce battery consumption. However, this does not seem to work on all machines. ...
May I make a friendly suggestion...You really need to understand linux and the command line in general before you go auditing wireless all willy nilly. Please visit the aircrack forums and wiki.
So, you downloaded the deb, installed it and in system, preferences, mouse, there wasn't an option for two finger scrolling?
Have you installed synaptics? If not look on the first page of Hardware & Laptops and see if you find a solution.
Have tried https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s..._1.1.1_all.deb
then
sudo dpkg -i synaptics-dkms_1.1.1_all.deb
Some users just don't know, because they've never tried. I did try installing ubuntu on a P4 1.3ghz and 128mb of ram. Ask me how it ran? It wouldn't even load and I later found out how much ram...
Does that mean my AMD 125w cpu in non compliant to your standards?
