please post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

please do:


sudo /sbin/ifconfig -a
sudo netstat -rn

you need to edit your /etc/network/interfaces file

here is what you should do:
put your xp cd , boot your pc

when asked press R to Repair windows
you will enter a terminal window

select your oparating system
enter your Administrator password...

i guess you mean you can't boot your xp.
if so you should edit your /boot/grub/menu.lst file
and make sure your xp is there.

ubuntu 8.04 comes with firefox-3, this is not a stable version yet
you shuld remove it and install firefox-2

You shuld look for apt souecr list for your dist (google)
modify your /etc/apt/source.list

then do :


apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade

chown the files to the user that u are using on the server

this is not a problem to fix ;)
reboot your system, when grub is loading press "Esc"
then select your usual boot kernel (probobly the first line)

try reinstalling you xorg-server ( you will loose all configuration !)
