Welcome to the forums! What I would do would be to open a terminal (xterm) window and type
sudo nautilus
to open the file browser with root privilages. I would then click on 'File System' and...
Thanks everybody! I was curious as to what this was.
In System Monitor, Processing Tab, there is a column labled "Nice". What does that mean? The values are all zero except for pulseaudio (-11) and update-manager (10).
I know it's early in the day but where can we (or be able to) get it? So far, I can't find any download buttons.
My translator plugin handles it somewhat but I just don't know what to tell him about his problem.

+1 here too.
Thank you all for the input. On the login screen I had changed the session from 'Ubuntu' to 'User Defined Session'. When the screen came up it had no panels or shutdown buttons. I could bring up...
Is there a way to log out from the terminal? I know about the 'reboot' and 'shutdown' commands but sometimes I just want to log out or switch user.
It seems to me that my system already had compiz installed. It was the CompizConfig Settings Manager (CCSM) that I had to download in the Software Center to see what the settings are and to change...
Phooey! Made it worse. Anyway, you can always uncheck that box. What happens if you press [F11] (toggles the panel on/off)?
Welcome to the forums! I don't have the problem myself so I can't test it but I'll tell you what I'd try. Open the Terminal and install gconf-editor
sudo apt-get install gconf-editor
Then run...

In 11.10, when I open cairo-dock I get a window in the upper right corner of the screen that appears to be a piece of a nonfunctional google search page. Clicking on the show desktop app gets rid of...
