Re: Facebook email that I never received before

Thank you for the info, I've had a quick search and read of the Mozilla page and Enigmail site. Not something I'd consider at the moment, given I'm only slowly moving non technical friends/contacts...

Re: Facebook email that I never received before

I've no idea if your account is secure as it is, if you're only using it on your iphone and Ubuntu then it's more likely to be.

If you really are concerned do the following:

    1) Ensure your...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu:Host Win7:Guest Virtualbox;USB-Guest Issues

Unusual but given Windows is recognising it, sounds like it's an issue with the actual Windows OS rather than the Vbox. Can you get other USB drives/devices to work in the Windows guest OS?

    A...

[all variants] Re: KVM or Virtualbox for Windows 7 guest??

    Just seen this:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=973756

That should answer a few of your queries (and mine).
  7. [xubuntu] Re: Any Suggestions BEFORE I attempt to run Virtualization?

Considering your experience, Virtualbox should be quite straightforward to set up. The instructions on their website are excellent. In answer to your question, you can share folders between virtual...

[all variants] Re: KVM or Virtualbox for Windows 7 guest??

I can't fault Virtualbox with guest additions installed (for the features you want), it allowed me to make the switch from dual booting. I used it after reading a review in linux journal where...

    [ubuntu] Re: Problem installing Ubuntu

Re the laptop being a piece of trash, I've given plenty of laptops older than yours a new lease of life, just requires tailoring your linux distro and packages to your hardware e.g Lubuntu/Xubuntu.

    [ubuntu] Re: Problem installing Ubuntu

Did you check to see if there is a BIOS update available on the manufacturers website? I'd still be tempted to do that while you've got your Windows partition; typically the BIOS update tool will be...

    [ubuntu] Re: Problem installing Ubuntu

    1) What flavour of Ubuntu are you trying to install?

2)Are you using the 32 bit or 64 bit version, if it's the latter make sure your CPU supports 64 bit instruction sets.

    3) Try booting the...

[ubuntu] Re: Scanner issue on cannon mp280

Agreed. I was emphasising the point that Canon's support was pretty good with .deb packages and a potential 'click' based approach to installing (all be it through a process of elimination re 32...

  20. [ubuntu] Re: Not a new user, but I had windows before as a crutch

  21. [ubuntu] Re: Not a new user, but I had windows before as a crutch

Glad that you have a solution that works, I tried Wine but some functions weren't supported for Office 2003, this was a while ago. Also it seemed a bit ugly.

With the hardware you've got, I'm...
  22. [ubuntu] Re: Not a new user, but I had windows before as a crutch

I use an Lubuntu 12.10 x64 host to run Windows 7 as a guest OS in Virtualbox.

I assume the laptop is relatively new and has a CPU with virtualisation support and at least 4 GB RAM?

    If so, don't...
