FYI - I have logged a bug in Launchpad, and am reliably informed that there is an upstream bugfix. Sadly it missed the freeze for 12.04 Precise, but will be in Precise +1.

lsmod reveals that the kernel has loaded a quanta module, so the kernel can see it. So I'm thinking xorg or Gnome is the problem?
