I've tried fooling around with Arch a bit, but I guess I'm just set in my ways (I've been using dpkg/apt based distros since 2006). The package management is a total nightmare for me (YMMV).

I figured out the issue. Thanks for putting me on the right track. I deleted my launch script and changed the


X-GNOME-Autostart-Delay=30

to


X-MATE-Autostart-Delay=30

sudo rfkill unblock all

(the soft blocked listing of hp-wifi from yes to no)

This is the part that's causing the problems. As far as the hard block, you might want to poke around the bios settings to see if it's been disabled or check the switch to make sure that it hasn't...

Okay let's try it this way. From a terminal enter:


sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf

then enter the:


options ath9k nohwcrypt=1

My fault, you're using XFCE...gedit is not installed by default. Just replace:


gedit

with


mousepad

Okay, try this:

Press ALT+F2 and enter:


gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf

In that editor copy/paste this:

Try:


sudo rfkill unblock all

Then reboot. If that doesn't work I think something else that I have up my sleeve just might. :)

Those are only for the graphics, not the wireless card. Could you please post the output of these commands:
