I've had that problem with aptitude before as well; I tend to stick with apt-get and it generally works just fine.
Just rebooted and checked in the bios...
There is an UEFI option under the boot sections, and its set to enabled. So I assume the answer to your question is yes.
As for fixing it,...
The boot GUI worked fine for me, I selected sda to install grub in--and it took care of all the work.
I'm still puzzled as to why the actual distro installation didn't properly do this though?
