[all variants] Re: Cairo Dock Question

No, I know how to configure it and keep it from hiding. What I want is to keep the icons and launchers, etc. to stay lit up instead of darkening. If your mouse isn't actively over the Cairo dock, the...

I'm using Gnome fallback desktop and no matter what I do, the monitor blanks after 10 minutes when I am watching a video. It does the same thing when I use the Unity desktop as well.

Re: Ubuntu 12.04 does not work

Well sir, You got me. I'm only knowledgeable about the nVidia card thing because I spent 5 days fighting with it on my system. The only thing I can suggest is that maybe the volume in the audio...

Re: Ubuntu 12.04 does not work

Don't comment any lines just add nomodeset to the back of the line we've been discussing. Do not change anything else. All we are trying to do is get you into the Ubuntu desktop and we succeeded....

Re: Ubuntu 12.04 does not work

Well, we got you part way. Do not delete anything in the GRUB lines. Just add nomodeset after the vthandoff.

Assuming it installed well enough for you to have internet access, follow the...

    Re: Copying a directory tree

Thank you all. I used sisco311's example and it worked smashingly. The only thing I had to do was rename the source and destination directories to remove the spaces in the directory names. It...

Re: Can't boot into Unity Desktop (12.04.2 LTS)

Thanks all. Apparently using sudo unity --reset resets the root's unity or God's unity or the great pumpkin's unity, or anyone's unity but mine. I left the sudo off and I got Unity back.

Re: Ubuntu 12.04 does not work

Sounds to me like you need to enable nomodeset. I have an nVidia 550 GT and something in the initial system doesn't like it.

Use your Alternate CD or a 12.04 LTS CD to install and when you get to...

  15. [ubuntu] Re: permission denied and unable to do anything in terminal

I've never used Spotify myself, but a quick search on Google makes it appear that Spotify is a Windows/Mac program. Perhaps using Wine would work for you.

  16. [ubuntu] Re: permission denied and unable to do anything in terminal

You can temporarily become su by typing sudo su in the terminal. You will keep root access (so far as I can tell) as long as you keep that terminal open.

Not exactly sure you really need to do...

Thank you, Bucky. I couldn't figure out how to delete that other post.

Thanks, Ronin. I will try that. I did it in a terminal I got to with CTRL-ALT-F1, but it just gave me a load of errors there.

Can't boot into Unity Desktop (12.04.2 LTS)

Howdy. I played around with GRUB Customizer and when I rebooted, I can't load Unity anymore (not that that is so terrible) but I can load into Gnome Classic and Cinnamon desktops just fine.

    When I...
