  1. Re: looking for a email to sms gateway for 02 uk?

There are a lot of these email to SMS gateways published on the internet - I don't know where they get the information from but I've never found one that actually works for Vodafone or Orange in the...

    [ubuntu] GUI crashes intermittently

For a few months now, every once in a while, my GUI will crash. The screen goes black after a few moments the log on prompt is shown.

This doesn't seem to correlate to - well anything.

    I can be...

That seems to do the trick. Thanks!
  4. [all variants] [SOLVED] Find command: exlude certain directories?

When using the find command I would like to prevent certain directories from being searched through.

Specifically, I generally connect to half a dozen or more SMB shares, which means they become...
  5. Intrepid sound sometimes works, sometimes doesn't

I've been using Intrepid since quite early on in the alpha stage, as it fixed the broken Intel wireless that was introduced in Hardy. Until recently all has been good, but over the last week or so...

[ubuntu] Re: Garmin GPS no longer makes /dev/tty entry

Which model is it? On at most Garmins there is an "interface" option to change the connection type, which may affect how it is seen by the computer. Does your model normally also show as a mass...
  7. [all variants] Re: Can I check and retrieve gmail from script?

They both seem to deal with checking if new mail is present; I need to do a bit more than that, i.e. downloading the attachment. There may be something in that longer thread with the perl script, but...

[all variants] Re: Samba PDF printing with AD authentication

Well here's a mostly working solution. It provides a network shared printer which Windows users can connect to. They print to it, and a PDF is created in a personal folder within one of their...

[all variants] Samba PDF printing with AD authentication

I've set up a server which shares out the cups-pdf printer, which outputs a PDF to a folder the user can grab from a samba share.

All users who print are interpreted as "anonymous" so their PDFs...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: likewise-open + domain member server + file sharing on Hardy

Which "long way" did you take? I've seen quite a few guides to this and they are all subtly different.

    [ubuntu] Move .gvfs?

That there .gvfs may be doing some fancy useful things, but it is becoming a bit of a pain being located in my home directory.

For instance I just tried listing all the shell scripts in my home...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: [SOLVED] apt-get update spits out this Medibuntu error, been at it all day.

I've been getting this intermittently for a week or so now. As far as I understand it, a 5xx HTTP error indicates a server-side error, so there's nothing to do other than hope they fix their server.
  15. [ubuntu] Re: likewise-open + domain member server + file sharing on Hardy

Where did you find liwcompat_v2.so and lwicompat_v4.so to link to? In /usr/lib/likewise-open/idmap there is only lwopen.so.

  21. [ubuntu] Re: Wireless not working unless boot to older kernel

I did nothing at all to make it work. Hardy as Feisty and Gutsy before provide a driver. And it has worked until recently on at least some of the other kernels with which it now doesn't..
