[ubuntu] Re: Browse files system on an iPhone.

those browsing tools, if they really do what you say on non-jailbroken phones, are probably exploiting the phone to get that much access. You are not supposed to be able to change system files that...

    Re: New Firefox Add-on

asac has a blog post about it here: http://www.asoftsite.org/s9y/archives/162-What-is-this-Multisearch-thing-in-my-Firefox-about.html

[ubuntu] Re: Intel GMA X4500HD woes (Intel G45 Chipset)

My understanding is that XvMC is not relevant to this hardware, and only good for accelerating mpeg2 anyway. Intel are working on some APIs and driver support for more generic video acceleration in...

[ubuntu] Re: Intel GMA X4500HD woes (Intel G45 Chipset)

Why 1872? The resolution of a 1080p TV is generally 1920x1080.

I have a G45 running Intrepid and with my Sony TV it properly detects 1920x1080 just by booting the machine with the TV switched on....

[ubuntu] Re: Intel GMA X4500HD woes (Intel G45 Chipset)

No, don't use i810, it's a very very old driver. (Actually these days it's quite likely that i810 is just a link to the intel driver).

[ubuntu] Re: Intel GMA X4500HD woes (Intel G45 Chipset)

weird. it's possible that our displays are interpreting the problem in different ways. unfortunately I don't have a DVI monitor available to test that with.

[ubuntu] Re: Intel GMA X4500HD woes (Intel G45 Chipset)

I'm running Intrepid. hardy basically doesn't work on this hardware. I don't have the NoAccel option though, and it works fine for me other than this flickering.
    What's breaking for you?

[all variants] Re: On the New Intel G45 Chipset - Failure

You'll almost certainly need to use Intrepid on this machine. Try the Ubuntu Alpha 6 version (not Kubuntu, at least not for the installer)

[ubuntu] Re: Intel GMA X4500HD woes (Intel G45 Chipset)

I have the same board as you

I see that too sometimes, although it seems to be improving with the Intel driver in Ubuntu Intrepid.

What do you mean exactly by flicker? I see very...

    [ubuntu] Re: Remote Partition Resize

actually one thing you could do that would be very helpful would be to grab /proc/config.gz if it exists, I don't have a copy of the kernel they had on the machine with dapper, I'm just running the...

    [ubuntu] Re: Remote Partition Resize

    Hi tobydeh

I got a new 1and1 Root server (the cheapest version of it) about 5 weeks ago and did exactly what you are asking about.

However, I do have to warn you that yesterday when one of my...

Erk, that is quite a scary solution. You really shouldn't be overwriting packaged files in the postinst.
You could just install from a tarball or grab the .deb of 20050412 from:

Re: HOWTO: Make your fonts smooth enough to drool over.

Something else worth checking is that Gnome is feeding freetype the correct DPI. I'm sure it used to guess this, but both my hoary boxes were wrong when I checked just now.

Re: Half life 2 performance in cedega.

WINE Is Not an Emulator ;)

It's slower because Microsoft have a load of people working on Windows's DirectX, Transgaming doesn't. As they spend more time improving the code paths in cedega's...

Re: The Backports Developer Cheat Sheet

    Hi

Is it safe to be doing this on an amd64 box? I am prepared to build and submit some backport packages to the amd64 tree.
