[all variants] Re: Guide to Get the Best Performace from the GMA 500

12.04 was just released in April o0. I don't get why I would have to immediately jump to another kernel. Fedora 17 isn't out or it doesn't appear to be looking over the project page.

    "WOW." is...

[all variants] Re: Guide to Get the Best Performace from the GMA 500

I tried 10.04 on an Inspiron 1100 and had an awful time with the display driver. For some reason I thought trying 12.04 on an Inspiron 1210 mini would be different. But here we are again: black...

[ubuntu] Re: 10.10 tty1 console login prompt at boot

:p:p:p:pI decided to format and will just use the flash drive as a storage device for use with the more-reliable-than-ubuntu Windows OS.:p:p:p:p

So what you are saying is that I should believe that a hardware mismatch is going to cause an invalid login error.

[ubuntu] 10.10 tty1 console login prompt at boot

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my 32gb flash drive. Just one large partition for the OS and about a gig for swap. Worked fine. Booted to USB on two computers and a laptop at home. Fine. Figured I'd try...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: How does one install 10.10 to USB from Live CD?

:D Well this all worked. I now have a bootable USBuntu stick. One question still remains. I believe /home is the Home folder in Ubuntu? Is that right? So if /home is its own partition things in the...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: How does one install 10.10 to USB from Live CD?

OK I'll try this out then. I don't really see myself using it in a standard flash drive way where one would plug the stick into a Windows pc and start dropping files onto it. It'd be more of me...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: How does one install 10.10 to USB from Live CD?

OK so how should the partitions look then? Say I plug in the flash drive after the fact and want to access the drives of a broken windows system and grab files? What then? That's what I'd like the...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: How does one install 10.10 to USB from Live CD?

    great justice!

  10. [ubuntu] Re: How does one install 10.10 to USB from Live CD?

Ubuntu reads FAT32 correct? So I should probably take the remainder and format it to FAT32? I also set that to /home because I was told that if I didn't set a place for it to mount from it wouldn't...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: How does one install 10.10 to USB from Live CD?

So I guess three partitions here.

    1) Ubuntu (roughly 4-6GB?)
    2) Files (~24GB)
    3) Swap (~1GB)

How would that look in the installer?

What about this? Am I close? lol
  12. [ubuntu] Re: How does one install 10.10 to USB from Live CD?

Well for whatever reason it's working now. Could you explain the above portion further? The stick I am using is 32GB and I want to make the most of it. I see we're creating about 4 partitions here is...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: How does one install 10.10 to USB from Live CD?

Well in the installer for the live 10.10 CD one does not get an advance button. ;(

The only thing one gets is to set up partitioning manually. So far it's just a straight 32gb USB stick with no...

    >.> is internet for glare. As in: "I appreciate your response but it wasn't what I was looking for." Just because one should not do something does not mean one cannot. Plus, it's a flash drive....
  17. [ubuntu] Re: How does one install 10.10 to USB from Live CD?

Thank you. I have been trying to do a normal install with ext4 but it won't let me partition the drive for swap...the new partition table button doesn't do anything. I know swaps are optional but...

...Do you speak of the USB Startup Disk creator linked from the Ubuntu site? I'm not going for a live cd on usb but an actual install...
  20. [ubuntu] How does one install 10.10 to USB from Live CD?

    ^
I have a 32gb flash drive that I'd like to install Ubuntu 10.10 too. As if it were just a normal installation. Boot loader and all just on the stick...

To note: I would be attempting this from...

[ubuntu] Re: Boot from USB, no USB boot option.

Is it possible to set up a flash drive in such a way that it tricks the pc into thinking that it (the flash drive) is a CD in the CDROM drive?
  22. [ubuntu] Re: Possible to install PLoP or something like it?

    http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager.html#grubinst

There is that...it's for grub though. :\
  23. [ubuntu] Re: Possible to install PLoP or something like it?

Ah, I forgot to mention. The laptop doesn't have an operating CDROM drive. :\
  24. [ubuntu] Possible to install PLoP or something like it?

This laptop doesn't have a BIOS that supports booting to any kind of USB device. PLoP seems like it emulates this. I couldn't get it working on my Windows install and now I have 10.04 LTS on this...
