[all variants] Re: data recovery and LVM

    Oh...your LVM isn't encrypted? I guess I didn't realize LVM could be used in a non-encrypted state.

Still, from the shell can you access your /home directory? In whatever drive/partition it's...

    Glad to hear it worked!

    to change permissions:

    cd Desktop
    chmod 777 iwl-no-blink.bash
Where you can change 777 based on what permissions you want to give it (777 is read/write/execute all). The other (simpler) option...

[all variants] Re: data recovery and LVM

Ok, first thing you need to do is download an "Alternate" Ubuntu CD and burn it to a disk.
Then, boot from the CD and enter "Rescue Broken System" (it's an option in the menu).
    Tell it you want to...

Yes, you are correct - I obtained the information from the actual GRUB bootloader after pressing 'c' - not from the CLI in Ubuntu.

I'll try the whole list and see if any of them provide any new...

    Ok, so,
    grub> geometry (hdX)
confirms that hd1 is the Vista drive. The output it gave said that it was an unknown file system type even though everything else seems to detect that it's NTFS.

[other] Re: [grub] Vista Dual Boot - 3 HD

Yes, by changing the first HD in BIOS I can still boot into Vista (done it several times already).

sudo fdisk -lu returns the following:

    Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
    255 heads,...

  14. [all variants] Re: [Nooby] What does this command want me to type in?

First- do you have a mount-point set up? I use /media/iso for mounting disc images.

    If you don't, type
sudo mkdir /media/iso or something like that to make your mountpoint.

    Then type:

  16. [ubuntu] Re: Newbie-ext hd and 2nd internal HD no access

As far as the internal HD goes - have you tried setting up an entry in your fstab to correspond? You can then set the owner to yourself so you ought to have read/write access.

    For the external HD...
