  1. [gnome] Re: Gnome applications seg fault after upgrade

Curious why I ran into this problem since I performed the upgrades this morning. I will try upgrading again when I'm back in front of my computer.

    UPDATE: Still cannot upgrade...
  2. [gnome] Re: Gnome applications seg fault after upgrade

Those were the same updates I had just prior to the loss of functionality. I'm still pointing the finger at gnome-themes-standard, but I'm reluctant to upgrade it again just to be sure.

[SOLVED] Access to my details in the User CP

I am an infrequent poster (also an intermittent Ubuntu user) and I can only guess that's why I cannot edit my details. I have met the bean-counter limit of 25 and would like to be able to make my...
  5. [gnome] Re: Gnome applications seg fault after upgrade

Could you be more specific? The packages I have installed and available for update are in sync with the PPA.
  6. [gnome] Re: Gnome applications seg fault after upgrade

That was the culprit for me. Reverted gnome-settings-daemon first - no change - GDM never finishes loading and no desktop.

    Reverted gnome-themes-standard and upgraded gnome-settings-daemon - back...

    [ubuntu] Re: remove gnome-panel

Pity this forum doesn't allow marking particular posts as friendly, helpful, solution, etc. mcduck provided a perfect solution with alternatives.

Thanks for the assist, mcduck. It helped me, too.
  8. Re: Sound in Wine problem fixed (at least for me)

Thank you very much for this tip. I'll try that in the future before nuking my preferences should I encounter any oddness with Wine.
  9. Sound in Wine problem fixed (at least for me)

Just in case this can help someone else:

After upgrading to Hardy, I no longer had sound in Wine. I tried a couple of the suggestions I had found on the forums: using padsp to use the OSS sound...
  10. Re: Nightmare Installing Unreal Tournament 2004 In Ubuntu 7.10

I've had similar problems getting UT2k4 to install in both Gutsy and now in Hardy.

I've tried exporting the SETUP_CDROM variable. I've tried mounting the DVD manually to a different location than...

    Re: e17

Just another vote to get e17 backported. I'm currently trying to compile it all per the freedesktop.org instructions. If I knew even the first thing about developing Ubuntu packages, I'd try...

    Re: Howto: Easy MIDI

I think it's because this file is just g'zipped and not tar g'zipped. A simple
gunzip Unison.sf2.gz should do the trick.

Many thanks, RastaMahata, for posting this HOWTO. ScummVM was the EXACT...

Re: What do you name your PC's ?

My main box is ellison (named after Harlan, not Ralph).
My backup server is pimini. It stands for Pink iPod Mini. (My wife chose it, it's mostly her files)

    Previous names were: clarke, zelazny,...

Re: Howto: Install and use Luminocity (eye candy)

It would appear I was wrong in claiming success with Luminocity. It worked once and has not worked since.

Now, when I run the exact same steps that showed off this crazy bit of eye candy, I get...

Re: What all desktop/window managers are there?

Right now, Enlightenment 17 is still alpha-quality and isn't in the main distribution. In order to get that, you'd have to follow one of the howto's in the forum. If you got enlightenment from the...

Re: What all desktop/window managers are there?

Depends on which version Enlightenment 16 is quite stable and fairly easy to configure. Plus, it's gorgeous.

If you're looking for lightweight, but still pleasing to the eye, XFCE4 (as someone...

Re: Howto: Install and use Luminocity (eye candy)

I'm just popping in to say it did work for me. Although the menus "wobbling" about takes a little getting used to. Definitely not going to consider doing any real work in Luminocity, but it's a...
