I don't have those options. My tabs are: Updates, Third-Party Software, and Authentication.

  4. Re: So maybe this (upgrading) was a bad idea....

Thanks, but no dice. It just ran the update manager same as before. :/
  5. Re: So maybe this (upgrading) was a bad idea....

At the top of what? All I get is a little window asking if I would like to check for updates. If I click yes, it does a check tells if there are updates available or not, and then asks if I want to...
  6. So maybe this (upgrading) was a bad idea....

So... yeah. Decided I would put on my 'Big Damn Hero' hat and venture in the wilds of Ubuntu. My Mini9 w/Ubuntu has been great this past year, but mostly b/c I haven't tried to actually DO...

  9. Re: Microsoft resorts to first layoffs, cutting 5,000 (AP)

  10. Re: Microsoft resorts to first layoffs, cutting 5,000 (AP)

Actually, no. They are actually hiring on the OS and Entertainment side of the corporation.

These layoffs were mostly admin, sales, marketing and services.
  11. Re: Microsoft resorts to first layoffs, cutting 5,000 (AP)

Yeah, bad news all around. One of my old roomates lost her job today. One of my current roomates lost hers a month or so ago (she actually was a Contractor). My other roommate is okay so far, as...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Stick with Dellbuntu, upgrade to 8.10lpia or wait till Jaunty?

Well generally newer is better, no? I mean 98 was better than 95, ME was... er... nevermind.

Seriously though, are newer versions not generally better?

    Considering that this machine was...
  13. [ubuntu] Stick with Dellbuntu, upgrade to 8.10lpia or wait till Jaunty?

So I've had my Mini9 for about two weeks now, and am ready to actually 'do' something. I've tweaked it, FF, and Pidgin, but only minimally. I've read that 8.10 has a lpia version and was wondering...

And 6% couldn't get Evolution to work properly and so never responded.

    I KID, I KID!

I thought the whole purpose of the Ubuntu experiment was to try and take Linux to the masses?

The masses don't want to spend all their time looking up tutorials and code.

    Re: "Learn Ubuntu" Software?

That sounds good an all, but some of us don't have the time. We want to be able to use our computer when it gets here, and not spend hours setting it up.
