    Have you tried Caffeine (https://launchpad.net/caffeine)?

    It prevents screensaver (and dimming, etc). I use it when I'm watching videos. :popcorn:

    Yeah use Deja Dup. Best software out there.

    Soon its gonna be default in Ubuntu and soon there's gonna be Ubuntu One support as well. I use it and you can even restore previous versions easily.

    You're running Ubuntu 11.04 right? The link which you looked at is almost a year old. So there may be some problems with it (PPA may be outdated).

    I think VLC is already included in the Ubuntu...
