My panp7 was having video issues, so I rebooted it. When it tried to turn back on, it gave one long beep, two short beeps, a long pause, and two short beeps.
Is there anything I can do at all?...

I have the same notebook and the same issue.
fn-f4 seems to be the suspend function, so while I presume that would work, I don't think it's really relevant here. fn-F7, the key I think is "cycle...
You don't have to format /home, and probably shouldn't (it saves a lot of pain). The old settings shouldn't interfere with anything. In general, keeping /home around is a safe practice.
System76's bigger-screened laptops have Nvidia cards, which rule them out. I'd probably get a Gazelle, but the '/' and '.' keys are really narrow for some reason, and I hate typing on them. That's...
Could you be more specific with regards to the models involved, and what hardware they have? You can use everything (or at least everything you've used) with only free drivers?
I don't really care...
Hacking. Some movies / music.
This really doesn't matter, though. Anything that fits the above constraints is fair game.
I did that on purpose.
It's time for me to get a new laptop, and I'm not really sure what I should be looking for. I have only a few requirements:
No thinkpads. I have heard very many good things about them, but...
I'm trying to create a variant of the alternate install CD with some extra packages included in the default install. I've followed the howto on the wiki (InstallCDCustomization) and I've been able to...
For some reason, fglrx was installed. After it was removed GDM started normally.
I don't know what would cause a bad upgrade. Everything during the upgrade process went completely smoothly, it didn't throw any errors, etc. I could check the upgrade logs tomorrow, but I doubt I'd...
I have no reason to believe that the upgrade failed. I had issues setting up graphics the first time around, but I eventually was able to get it working. What's odd this time around is that after I...
Both log files didn't show much. I don't have the system in front of me, but as I recall, there were very few (if any) errors in Xorg.0.log, and nothing about the crashes in syslog.
The xserver-xorg-vide-intel package was installed at the latest version in the Januty repos. I tried reconfiguring X via the "xfix" option in the recovery mode menu -- that didn't work.
The...
I upgraded a friend's Darter Ultra 3 to Jaunty today, and when I rebooted into the new system, everything went fine up to X starting, upon which the screen flickered a few times and then just stayed...
I don't want to change the $HOME I currently have, I just want another encrypted ~/Private directory inside it, for the things I want "more" secure than the rest of my $HOME.
I have an encrypted $HOME directory, but I would like to have the same ~/Private capabilities I had in 8.10, preferably with a different algorithm than AES, like Serpent.
I understand I can modify...
Did you reboot between patching the drivers? If you didn't unload the modules (you have to do this even after installing them) then the old drivers would have been in effect.
The specific error there is that you don't have a VIA CPU with the Padlock features. Those features include hardware AES, but you don't have that chip, hence why the device is not found.
You...
You don't use your own GnuPG configuration to add keys to Apt. You use apt-key. Your permissions are incorrect, because now they're more readable because you ran gpg as root. You should fix that.

If you're keeping current with intrepid, there was a kernel update not too long ago, which means you would have to reboot (otherwise the new kernel wouldn't load) and obviously a new kernel would be...
Yup, it'll be a lot more convenient, and a lot less secure. If you're keeping clear backups, you might as well not bother with encryption in the first place.
Backups don't need to be plaintext, they just need to be backups.
I don't think recovery mode will work, because it will still go through PAM for the login. A boot CD is your only option.
Are you sure your drivers are patched? You failed the injection test.
The aircrack forums would be a better place than this, though.
