    There should be indicator lights on your network card. Are those lighting up whenever you plug it into your router?

    if you run the ifconfig command

    under "eth0" do you get an ip for "inet...

    I would say cron is your best bet..

    Did you install Ubuntu Server, or the desktop edition? If you installed the desktop edition, you need to set it to automatically log in, or else it will pause...
