for some reason one problem has solved the other, I have sound now but I still have this problem http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=239458
In Breezy I had no problem with this, but now in Dapper I have no sound. Everything is the newest version, I just installed it yesterdy.

all of my rigs are strictly linux, a mixture of distros, but all linux. the only WinXp boxes in my apt. are my girlfriends but even one of those is a dual boot (Fedora Core 5 and XP).
If you really need a fix, you could install it via Cedega. I know its a cop out but I had to do it for Quake 3 (a lan was callin') ;)
The only thing that I've ever done with .run files is double click on it. It is supposed to all of that itself. It's like a .exe in Windows

Yeah it is in caps, well at least thats how it came over samba (see above), should I try to rename it to not be in caps?
ok I tried to move it via the GUI (KDE) but no go, because I dont have permissions (its owned by root) so I tried

ok i have to admit something I dont technically own a copy of Q3 a co-worker made a copy of it for me a some how came up with an image file that is Linux-in-compatable so I can only get to the disk...
