  1. [SOLVED] Re: how do I browse a shared drive via openvpn in thunar

I figured it out. The trick was to add the following lines to the [global] section in smb.conf:

    client lanman auth = yes
    client ntlmv2 auth = no

with this change, the authentication works ok...
  2. [SOLVED] how do I browse a shared drive via openvpn in thunar

I have a probably silly question: my employer created an OpenVPN server. I would like to know, how I can get access to the shared drives
I have wicd installed and openvpn. I do have the client.open...
  3. Re: how to know Which server is ruuning on my machine (I have just installed Ubuntu 1

Did you install any other packages? I'd go to synaptic package manager and list all installed packages. that should tell you whether apache is installed.

[ubuntu] Re: Version I use has reached "end of life"

I second one of the earlier posters: don't upgrade! Yes, the system can not be "kept up to date", but if it does what you want and need, who cares? I am aware of the security fixes but realistically,...

best software I know of to control access to websites with (at least) semiautomatic updates of IP addresses is dansguardian.

[ubuntu] Re: Trying to convert .flv to .mp4

You can go to winFF.org. WinFF is a nice GUI to convert videos. Following the Download link you get to a Linux Installation Instructions. Follow those and you can install WinFF with Synaptic
  8. Re: Really bad experience with Ubuntu Linux (Unity, 13.04)

    MadmanRB,
I think you are missing your point with ".... partioning is always risky"-comment. If a distro that's aiming to be mainstream puts an automatic option anywhere it better work. Not...
  9. Re: Proposed: Chromium as Ubuntu's default browser

I do think Chromium is better than FF: I have had nothing but trouble with FF, some websites, like Lumosity, don't run on FF but are flawless on chromium. On the other hand, the decision not to...

Re: Why upgrade every 6 months?

I use my laptop with 12.04.2 for work and can't afford for it to break. Not only do I not upgrade the distro, I usually don't even do updates unless something makes me, for example new hardware. LTS...

    ZarathustraDK
I agree with your post #10 but ONLY if there remain options. I personally do not like integrated GUI's like Apple had and I really dislike Unity: I can't find anything. Maybe that's...

Re: Gnome: The ethics of saying just "no"

I agree with buzzingrobot (#24) this is not an ethics issue.
I think the responses from the GNOME team were arrogant, shortsighted and probably outright dumb but not unethical.

    If Olav Vitter...
  13. [all variants] Re: Xubuntu 13.04: "Checking Disk Drives for Errors"

I had a similar problem a while back with a certain kernel version: this kernel caused some file system errors at shutdown and a subsequent slow boot. Forgot which kernel version it was but upgrading...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: How to completely remove and block Facebook in Ubuntu?

Agree with the previous poster, the links in websites are placed by the site. Short of modifying your browser code and compiling your own custom browser that filters this, I don't see a way.
    As for...

Re: Things that you dislike in Ubuntu

    DouglasAdams,
I should have been more precise:

a DE option or list of options to be installed would be great (of course the answer to the question why it's not there is "42";) ).

Re: Things that you dislike in Ubuntu

Having said that, does anybody have a recommendation for a wireless...
