[lubuntu] Re: PCmanFM won't copy/move files

Are you running Parcellite by any chance?

I had the same issues it that was the culprit. Try exiting out of it and see if your problems don't disappear.

[lubuntu] Re: PCmanFM won't copy/move files

Hey, Good job on finding this thread. I am still working around this issue.

You are in better shape than me. My right clicking doesn't work, either. I can right click, copy; but when I try to copy...

[ubuntu] Re: "Wrong password" message on sudo

I had this exact problem once in a while on 12.04. It was very odd, indeed. I had found that a reboot solved it. I later discovered my HD had bad sectors, so I attributed the problem to that. After I...

    [lubuntu] PCmanFM won't copy/move files

    This is an odd one.

PCmanfm simply won't copy or move files. It is otherwise fully functional.

This is true regardless if I use keyboard shortcuts or try to drag files with the mouse. Simply...

[ubuntu] Re: dev/mapper/cryptswap1 not ready on startup

I'm having the same problem, but some difficulty as to what the exact change needs to be.

    Here's /etc/crypttab:

    cryptswap1 /dev/sda1 /dev/urandom swap,cipher=aes-cbc-essiv:sha256

    Here's...

    [lubuntu] Re: youtube video issues

I'm very happy to say I've discovered a work around for this bug.

If you go to chrome://plugins/ and expand the Shockwave entry, you will find something called "pepper flash"

    [lubuntu] Re: youtube video issues

Yup. Same here. Doesn't have to be maximized. Happened after update.

I've downloaded some flv vids to test, and they play fine in Mplayer or VLC, etc. Seems Flash problem.

    I'm running 12.10.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu makes my laptop to overheat

I'm sure the less than perfect driver is contributing to this, but I'd bet if you were to switch to a lighter desktop environment you would find the system very usable.

Even if the drivers are OK,...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: UFO:AI doesn't work in 12.10 with Intel embedded chipset

Hey, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, this package is already installed.
  10. [ubuntu] UFO:AI doesn't work in 12.10 with Intel embedded chipset

I've been doing some searching around and can't find a solution to this problem. It seems this problem is common with the Q965 etc. embedded chipset.

    The latest xserver-xorg-video-intel seems to...

[SOLVED] Re: Disable excessive password requests

Well, yeah. But the point is, at least the admin has to elect to type the password.

No password needed=something could install itself without the administrator even being aware of it. That's the...

[SOLVED] Re: Disable excessive password requests

My friend, I promise you, if you just get accustomed to thinking in a more secure way, you'll appreciate this as a great strength instead of a weakness.

Ubuntu has already done away with the root...

[SOLVED] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 Upgrade failed

I think the situation is not as dire as you suspect. A couple of questions:

    1. How did you accomplish the first install of Ubuntu?

I suspect your BIOS can indeed boot from a CD. Your system...

[SOLVED] Re: No miniumn, No maximum, No closeout Buttons

Are you running Unity or another desktop environment?

I suspect your WM is crashing. It could be as simple as starting it up again (this used to happen often in XFCE due to some bug or other.)
  15. Re: Canonical asks desktop users to "pay what you think Ubuntu is worth"

    Guilty as charged. I apologize.

I don't think I ever said "diverting." I just said I don't get why anyone would contribute donations to a for-profit rather than to guys who are donating...
  16. Re: Canonical asks desktop users to "pay what you think Ubuntu is worth"

No! I don't. I just have a problem with a for-profit company soliciting for donations. Actually, "have a problem" is too strong. Canonical can conduct its business any way it wants to. I just don't...
  17. Re: Canonical asks desktop users to "pay what you think Ubuntu is worth"

You might be right about that. I was just going on what you said about them distributing money to developers.

OK, yes the GPL does allow for charging for distribution, but the source code has to...
  18. [ubuntu] Re: No Times New Roman though mscorefonts is installed

    Try

    sudo dpkg-reconfigure ttf-mscorefonts

And a reboot for good measure. That might do it. :)
  19. Re: Canonical asks desktop users to "pay what you think Ubuntu is worth"

I think you are missing an important point here.

The developers are contributing to open source writing software under the GPL (or other work under the CC). By the terms of the licence, all this...
  20. Re: Canonical asks desktop users to "pay what you think Ubuntu is worth"

You are right. I don't clearly understand this. If there are entities set up as not-for profit, it's fine for them to solicit donations.

This Website has been brought up a few times. Who owns it?...
  21. Re: Canonical asks desktop users to "pay what you think Ubuntu is worth"

Canonical has an interest in spreading Ubuntu to as many users as possible. Anything that helps that, like giving away DVDs or providing support or conferences, is a business expense.

    Don't blame...
  22. Re: Canonical asks desktop users to "pay what you think Ubuntu is worth"

That's right. Is Mark (does everyone refer to him by his first name? I'm new here) the only Canonical investor? If so, he has no one to answer to. If not, he and his other investors will decide what...
  23. Re: Canonical asks desktop users to "pay what you think Ubuntu is worth"

If this is his business venture, then, M. Shuttleworth's going to put what money in it he thinks is appropriate in the hopes of a return on his investment like anyone else.

    If it's not a business...
  24. Re: Canonical asks desktop users to "pay what you think Ubuntu is worth"

Speaking for myself, my knickers are pretty straight. :)

My objections really have nothing to do with whether or not Canonical makes money. I'd love it if they can make a business plan work that...

[SOLVED] Re: Upgrade from Lubuntu to Studio

Well, I finally had a chance to take a look. Odd thing was, no rt or lowlatency kernel was installed. I could have sworn I installed it!

Stranger still, I found the latest lowlatency headers, but...
