When I did C programming I used Kate, mostly for its integrated terminal window. Now for Java I use Eclipse...

Yeah I think its very addictive, too. You have to spend a lot of time on it to get good and then when you have wasted hours/days on it you dont want to stop... That game isnt about any skill/thinking...
