    Ok, did some more troubleshooting. Tried loading XFCE with GNOME services but it had no effect. Also, I was getting a "/dev/dsp resource busy" message so I tried this:

    sudo killall esd

    That's very helpful, thanks. The one gripe I do have about GNOME is good documentation is hard to find.

    I wonder if you could answer another question? How do I get the "Open Terminal" option...
