Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out how to change Unity-2D's window manager to something other than Metacity (ie stumpwm.) I've followed the directions for xmonad:...
I fixed it! I needed to remove:
quiet splash vt.handoff=7
from the boot options and it booted fine.
drawkcab, Is there anything that is different about how I install? I've tried this and with the ubuntu alternative installer, it doesn't work. I would like to just install a command line system, x,...
My hard drive died, and so in the meantime (until I get paid to replace the laptop) I need to run some sort of persistent usb distro.
My computer is too old to run natty live off of the usb.

I'm following the instructions here:...
Friendly bump,
Is there anyone who can answer my file system questions? The PA question is more of an annoyance thing than a real issue, but the upgrade to 64bit with my current setup could be a...
Rather than starting two threads, I thought I would ask a couple questions here.

1) Can I...
Hi,
I know the OP asked for a simple IDE, but I find it odd that no one suggested emacs. I started using geany, couldn't get anything to work, and emacs and vi were the only two text editors...
I don't know how recently nvidia has released those drivers, but when I upgraded Jaunty, the ones that I got from nvidia's site worked fine. Unfortunately, the computer that has the nvidia drivers...
ROOT is very quirky about these things. Sometimes hacks like this work, and sometimes they don't. If something blows up later on involving libtiff, you know where to go hunting first.

A couple questions: Does the version from the repositories work? 5.17 is relatively recent by root standards, and you should have a lot of what you need unless there is something specific...
I think the issue here is that you need to set $ROOTSYS and $LD_LIBRARY_PATH before compiling. This was already taken care of on my installation because I was upgrading to a newer version... Please...
you can do this by going to Edit>Edit Profiles click on edit, and then you can tweak to you heart's content. The one's you're looking for are the Colors and Background tabs.

EDIT: After revisiting the post, it may not...
sorry, but have you tried starting it without the video card installed? Plug the monitor into the onboard video port and see if you can boot, that will at least isolate the problem to the video...

I was wondering if anyone else could confirm this behavior, or had an idea of where to start hacking... I wouldn't mind at least reading the source code.

This will help you reinstall grub.
There's R which isn't very hard to use, its a little hairy at first, but it doesn't take much to get meaningful results. It handles small amounts of data fairly nicely. There's also ROOT:...
