    Re: College and Laptop

I would recommend a portable laptop/netbook if you can afford it, but you don't exactly need it as there are usually computer labs everywhere.

Wait until your first semester is over and then...

[ubuntu] Re: Changing the primary monitor.

Thanks everyone, you've all been very helpful. I'm just gonna figure out the script thing myself and join the NotifyOSD development team to fix the non-customizable way notifications are...
  6. Re: Ubuntu needs to change their swap space calculation!

Well, my source (link in main post) is directly from Red Hat's RHEL 5 manual. It does mention for systems with a large amount of RAM that less than 1x amount of RAM is fine also.
  7. Re: Ubuntu needs to change their swap space calculation!

You would only need a 1:1 so that everything in RAM (should it be completely full) can be completely dumped to the hard disk. Following Red Hat's standards there'd be enough for the entire system's...
  8. Ubuntu needs to change their swap space calculation!

First off, I'm not sure if this thread belongs in the Community Cafe but I couldn't think of a better place for it (although I may look into submitting a bug report).

    Currently, I've got 6GB ram...

    [ubuntu] Changing the primary monitor.

So I decided to switch my desktop to 10.04 Ubuntu, yet not having a checkbox option in the Monitor configuration window to set a primary monitor is baffling.

Poll: Re: [Poll] Will you feed the 10.04 torrents?

Got to a 3 ratio in a little over an hour on the Kubuntu 64 Desktop before I had to shut my laptop off. :)

Re: Windows 7 what's the fuss about

Excellent point and I agree. I always use the search or my couple shortcuts on the desktop to access programs I care about. This habit has translated over to Mac also as I rely on spotlight to open...

Re: Windows 7 what's the fuss about

It's what Vista should have been. Everything "just works" in a leaner and cleaner way.

For example, Windows Update finds all of the drivers from the manufacturers for you correctly these days. If...

  18. Re: The Android freight train is picking up momemtum...

Good. Apple's nastiness with their developers and Adobe drove me to get a Droid. I'd rather not spend a lot of time making a good app and have it sit in limbo for months only to be rejected for...

Re: no x? am i alone?

For the longest time I was using Arch with Ion3 and my iBook was Debian with no X at all. I guess using Ion3 doesn't count as no X but the only graphical programs I used were Firefox and Pidgin,...
