    Username change request

    Hi guys,

I created this account a long time ago as a casual Linux user and picked something completely random. Later when I got more seriously involved with Ubuntu GNOME I started to use my handle...

Re: End of Ubuntu Phone and Unity

I too was sad to hear this news as I was fond of the whole convergence thingy and Unity as a DE but sometimes it's hard to be open-minded in a mostly closed-minded world, where people don't like to...
  4. Re: Mic doesn't work via Skype/Hangouts/Telegram but does via Audacity

I am currently on Debian 8 k3.16.0-4 and since I've opened this thread I've tested about all the major distros with kernels from 3.16 up, to no avail. Sound is extremely low w/ distortion.

    Tried...
  5. Re: Mic doesn't work via Skype/Hangouts/Telegram but does via Audacity

I don't think filing a separate bug against every app I encounter is a good idea, especially those not in the repos, more like filing a bug against what they all have in common - a library/driver,...
  6. Re: Lenovo G50-45 microphone barely working w/ distorted, weak sound

Ok, you won't believe this, but when I tested over Audacity to record my own voice it worked. Through Audacity I could hear my voice. Through Skype or Hangouts, or Telegram I cannot.

    I checked...
  7. Re: Lenovo G50-45 microphone barely working w/ distorted, weak sound

Do you think I should give it one last shot by settings even BIOS Defaults (not only boot priority and boot mode respectively) to Windows 8 (UEFI), then boot to a live session and try Ubuntu GNOME...
  8. Re: Lenovo G50-45 microphone barely working w/ distorted, weak sound

I have asked for clarification about UEFI vs. Legacy and got good enough answer not to stick with it.

On the other hand, when I change my BIOS settings to full UEFI with defaults for "Other OS"...
  9. Re: Lenovo G50-45 microphone barely working w/ distorted, weak sound

Have tested with having everything set to UEFI except OS defaults, those I kept for "other OS", not Windows 8, then my computer wouldn't even boot, probably also because I have no EFI partition...
  10. Re: Lenovo G50-45 microphone barely working w/ distorted, weak sound

    Hey Lance,

I already tried numerous live sessions with all *ubuntu flavours and also distros like Fedora, Manjaro and the mic behaved the same.

Important thing to mention is when BIOS was set...
  11. Re: Lenovo G50-45 microphone barely working w/ distorted, weak sound

Do you think is it also possible that I'm having this issue because I installed my system with legacy instead of UEFI settings in BIOS?

I'm asking, because Windows wouldn't install in legacy mode,...
  12. Re: Lenovo G50-45 microphone barely working w/ distorted, weak sound

I've tried now with a pair of headphones that have a mic, it was the only thing I have (not using it at all) and my laptop has a unified jack for both mic and speakers. Sound was very, very bad,...
  13. Mic doesn't work in VoIP apps, but does with Audacity

I am running Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 x64, but I tested also with Manjaro k3.16.7 to see if this impacts only *ubuntu variants and I got the same result - microphone is barely working, I could barely hear...

[SOLVED] Re: AMD dual-graphics not detected

Upgrading to 15.04 might solve this, as doing a brief check via LiveUSB I saw that both cards are detected. Although there are still issues with e.g. Libreoffice crashing the entire sessino I might...

    [SOLVED] Re: 14.04.2 wont dual-boot

Tried everything that has been suggested. I guess I'll just have to leave it for now and perhaps when Windows won't be required on that machine it will be easier to get it running.

    Thanks for all...

    [SOLVED] Re: 14.04.2 wont dual-boot

Now that you mention back light, when I ran the LiveCD I spotted 3 lines of text there (splash) with a short error related to back light, that it could not be found or smth, but it still ran normally...

Nothing happens, no errors are displayed, just a blank, dark purple screen.

I will try the command suggested by Kansasnoob and post the result when I get on the other computer.

    [SOLVED] Re: 14.04.2 wont dual-boot

I've tried NOMODESET, to no avail.

I don't think the driver is the issue since when previewing from the LiveCD everything went totally smooth, no lags, spikes, slowdowns, the desktop was...

    [SOLVED] Re: 14.04.2 wont dual-boot

Yes, without issues, only there are two Windows entries at boot, but I always pick the one at /dev/sda1 and it runs.
