I've had these same problems at one time. I solved it somehow, but I do remember that it gave me great frusturation.
I didn't do this, but why not try to edit the .doc itself in gedit/ other text...
I dunno...I don't think that KDE will kill GNOME. They are two very different DE's, with different aims.

I got a Samsung GoGear. Its pretty cool, FM radio, photos, music, and video, but after coming from an iPod(which got stolen), the interface could use some work.
personally, I think that Aqua looks better than KDE 4, but it does look good. Is there a GNOME theme like it?

Yeah, it was almost completely free for me. I burned my CD,and imagine my surprise that all my hardware except my sound card was compatible! But now, I just use integrated sound, so no biggy.
