[ubuntu] Re: Needs some help with Samba

    BAB1, thank you.

It's true: Samba is working, and the only indication that there might be a problem is the popup telling me that there is an error. When a trouble light comes on on a car...

  5. [ubuntu] Re: Cannot log in via main login GUI, but can via Terminal

Okay, that didn't work. In fact it got worse: instead of bouncing me back to the main login screen it just takes me to a black screen and the monitor goes to sleep.

I PuTTY'd into the computer and...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Cannot log in via main login GUI, but can via Terminal

    Thank you.

"is the sysadmin user's account writeable?"

I don't know what that means. The sysadmin's /home folder is writeable:

[ubuntu] Re: Networked NAS shows up twice

Yes, turning off Mac File Service on the Synology NAS (Control Panel > Win/Mac/NFS) did the trick. And it greatly sped up browsing the Windows network from the Ubuntu file managers. Many thanks.
