I have redownloaded the iso about 4 times through unetbootin and manually, could it be i need to use a cd/dvd rather than a usb?

My windows xp install died and I made a Ubuntu USB install (13.04 32bit) with unetbootin when i start my computer the unetbootin screen appears and i press install...
Turns out after all it was corrupted next time i will manually backup

No i dident but im on mint now would i need to reinstall ubuntu just to get them back?
Is it possible I reentally installed mint whilst I wait to get more ram
and lost some important files at the same time (not related) and they are in a deja dup backup but i have no idea how to...
oh i had problems with unity being very slow and having items missing(like side bar ect)

is the desktop slow when you first load it?
in the file you installed it too there should be a launcher you could then make a shortcut
the command line is 'eclipse' if you cant find the launcher

No it can only backup 5gb i belive.
Oh to add if you want rock solid backup you can use the daja-dup backup tool that uses Ubuntu one no install required!
just installed to get point of view if you cannot open crash plan use the command line
/usr/local/bin/CrashPlanDesktop
find out where you put the file (Nivida drivers) for example if they were in the downloads folder you would open terminal (ctrl+alt+t)quick way and type
cd Downloads
then type
sudo...
There are many videos on Youtube just type in 10 things to do after installing Ubuntu.
Some are not the best but there are some with good tips that could suit.
Depends very much what you are like for example I use Gnome 3 my personal preference
If you are using unity you can install Myunity from The Ubuntu soft where centre.
