[ubuntu] Re: What to do with kernel panic?

I am sorry, but I really can't understand the workarounds and solutions that are given.

The first part where I am already hitting a wall: how do I download and install stuff when I don't have a...

[ubuntu] Re: What to do with kernel panic?

With the wireless card inserted in the computer, even with a live wireless network connection, I have no problem. The problems only come when downloading or uploading larger amounts of data.

[ubuntu] Re: What to do with kernel panic?

Sef, this doesn't make any sense. I booted with recovery mode, which made no difference. And "you can fix your computer"??? No I can't, that is exactly the reason why I post for help!

    Anybody else...

[ubuntu] What to do with kernel panic?

    Hi all,

I am getting a kernel panic (flashing caps lock and scroll lock lights) after some wireless network usage.

It's not immediate; I can have a few 100 kB of network traffic without...

Re: Why are so many using Ubuntu codenames?

    Wikipedia's page about Ubuntu[/QUOTE]

I have never said the codenames cannot be found. I am saying one has to search for them. And I regard going to Wikipedia to find information, as searching.

Re: Why are so many using Ubuntu codenames?

But that doesn't help if you see another codename. Is that previous version (with a big chance the remarks will also apply to the current version), or is that a version of 2-3 years ago? It doesn't...

Re: Why are so many using Ubuntu codenames?

Very interesting to read all of your replies! Good to know it is an issue for more people than I originally thought.

Here to answer a few questions and remarks:

    I understand that, but there...

Re: Why are so many using Ubuntu codenames?

I notice all of you are native English speakers.

The word warthog I know from the Lion King movie, a hedgehog I know from the Sonic videogame, but for someone like me all the other apparently...

[ubuntu] Kernel panic after some network usage

    Hi all,

My initial happiness with 8.04 (this was the first version where I was able to get a wireless connection again in over a year), crashes as quickly as the computer did while using the...

Why are so many using Ubuntu codenames?

    Hi all,

As a Ubuntu and Linux newbie, my learning curve is often artificially steepened by the use of Ubuntu codenames instead of version numbers.

Ubuntu by itself has a very clear version...

    That should have been http://www.ublug.org/ubuntu/twinview/twinview-howto-breezy.html

Don't know what that URL should have been. The forum software seems to cripple some URLs.

Re: HOWTO: Restore GRUB (if your MBR is messed up)

This is a bit off-topic, but in Synaptic, select the package you just installed (should have a green box in front of it), then click the Properties button, and go to the Installed Files tab. There...

Re: HOWTO: Restore GRUB (if your MBR is messed up)

Arnieboy, I agree with Curlydave's post, point #4 needs more explaination.

Also, you're referring to "the Ubuntu CD". Since most people here have two of them lying around, you should mention that...
