People used to finger each other all the time!
Yes there is a little tolerance, and often the PSU provides a little above, which is good because it may go down a little under heavy load.
but those min/max values look odd...or I am not reading...
Yeah... coincidence?
This could be an issue with CRT monitors... particularly old ones, newer CRTs would kinda go into a safe mode and say frequency out of range.
Never heard of that...
You are right that read-ahead has no effect on writes. However, I wanted to point out that read-ahead does help with re-writes. More of a significant difference than it has on reads actually.

Do you have the latest BIOS revision for your motherboard? IIRC some of the earlier nforce2 boards had some issues that this might fix
This is potentially risky if you have frequent freezes...
Yes... and not quite... DDR-1333 speed has a memory bus clock speed of 667MHz, Hence the name *Double* Data Rate... Its not right to say 1333 MHz. DDR-1600 speeds are then 800MHz. With that and...
Because for us 64-bit guys, the 32-bit libraries are in the /usr/lib32 directory:
$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib32/libopenal.so.1 /usr/lib32/libopenal.so.0
Hopefully if you ran Cuppy's getlibs script as...
I don't think the south bridge chip would be loose, being soldered to the board you would have bigger problems if it was. Sometimes those heatsinks are spring-mounted and there can be a little play....
It sounds like the boot device order may not be correct in the BIOS settings. If you moved any hardware around or unplugged/replugged a drive it might change on its own.
If you have hard drives...
Ah, I thought you were looking to replace the laptop outright... and your OP even said "upgrade it" LOL
True. I was just pointing out that expandability is not its strong point ;)
Another point, and while it doesn't matter for server use, is that the GMA 500 video currently has no accelerated...
Unfortunately you will need to recreate the array to change the stripe size. stripe_cache_size is a cache, its not setting the actual stripe size.
Since building a RAID5 array is timely you can...
How exactly is it displaying the memory speed or ratio in the setup? If it is a ratio of 1:2.4 then you are running *way* over the DDR2-800 speeds that you think.
A 1:1 ratio with a 333 true FSB...
I am still on the fence as far as preference... maybe too many options ;)
You can have a more progressive transition into the acceleration using options like:
xset m 11/8 0
xset m 5/3 0
To do this the <threshold> needs to be set to 0
Also see Endolith's...
I'm far from a programmer and have not compiled anything on ubuntu yet
and this prob isn't the proper way, but as a last resort I would think you could find a CFLAGS line in the Makefile and add...
Are you using an application that stops responding, maximized to full screen? When apps get tied up the window dims. Does the panel/menu bar dim too?
I would say it is not a function of the...
Because that is not a real hardware RAID controller. It has the moniker FakeRAID in the community. Basically its software RAID with a little assistance from the card. You can setup linux to use it...
When shopping for a new machine I'd say hell yes... but the OP has a similar single-core laptop now. So it depends on how you use it and whether you have the $ to burn. You can keep an eye on your...
I dunno but I'll throw a few things out there...
Did you pull the other controller card when you tested with the motherboard's integrated controller? Disable integrated when using the add-on one?...
For some reason I thought you had DDR3 running at 1:2 ratio fsb:memory. I took another look at your link and saw its ddr2-1066 that may want a higher voltage anywhere around those speeds...

Thats is probably a No, at least easily.
Maybe take a look at the cross-platform TrueCrypt
http://www.truecrypt.org/
I'll update my original post with that url correction.
I did fix the sound!! It was a 32-bit vorbis dependancy or two:
$ getlibs -p libvorbis0a
$ getlibs -p libvorbisfile3
The first one...
set it free! if it comes back it's yours, if it doesn't, it never was.
Oh, it came back!
Just download a 32-bit ubuntu install cd?!?
