i have a bsnl router too and i've gotten around by automatically setting it to connect to the internet, this way you don't need pppoe in either windows or linux.

if its a java application, then wouldn't a jar file do just fine??
you might want to try vmware player as an alternative to virtualbox
although its not open source its free
and for me there is a huge difference in the performance when you compare the two of them...
some mod should move this to recurring discussions

whenever i power on my laptop, bluetooth and wifi are on by default.
i have dedicated keys to turn both of these off.
but i wanted to disable both of them at startup and only switch them...
