[SOLVED] Re: An Apology to KDE...

Yeah, I told Gnome to pack her crap and call a cab. KDE's my home box now.

Wait, that *really* sounds wrong...I may have taken this analogy too far this time.

[SOLVED] Re: An Apology to KDE...

Gnome keeps wanting me to...you know...try different things...and so I do...you know, to keep things interesting...but Gnome's just a freak.

I just want something a bit more mature and stable.

    [SOLVED] An Apology to KDE...

I want to say I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart...

For the longest time, I have snubbed you and said cruel things like, "KDE's just a transitional environment for ex-Windows users..." and...

    [SOLVED] Re: Cairo-dock duplicate docks???

Yeah, I checked out the .hidden folders in ~/home and couldn't find a bloody thing.

So my solution of removing them all, saving and then telling it to start up cairo-dock at start seemed to fix...

    [SOLVED] Cairo-dock duplicate docks???

    RESOLUTION:

Although I am sure there is a more elegant way to do this, I presumed that the issue was in the fact of having originally spawned the cairo-dock, telling it to always launch at startup...

[SOLVED] Re: PC Build AMD A8-3850 Llano

I'd stick with AMD, best bang for your buck. Yes, an i5 might be a little more powerful, but it's not going to give you the same all around performance for price.

As for the ASUS board, I've been...

[ubuntu] Re: Wireless not staying connected

I hate to be captain obvious but A) Don't shut the lid. B) check your power options, it's most likely going to sleep state when you close the lid, thus killing off everything.

    Cheers,

  10. [ubuntu] Re: Could not read from resource > Could not launch application (INPUT|OUTPUT ERROR)

Take some steps to verify where the issue is coming from.

Slap some MP3s onto a flash drive. Attempt to play them.

IF they play, THEN hardware issue - laptop hard drive is dying.

    IF they...

[SOLVED] Re: PC Build AMD A8-3850 Llano

#1: The case/PSU combo won't work - the PSU is underpowered. I'd go with an 80+ bronze certified PSU, myself - it really helps reduce the power consumption. Just find something decent to put one...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Upgraded to 11.04. Same old Gnome desktop, but no panel

Log in using "Gnome classic" option. To do so, select to Log Out as current user, when the GDM screen comes up with your user options, select your user name, but then at the bottom, change the login...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: How to make my old /home partition and /boot as default after reinstalling 10.10.

Yes, when you install you have to set it for a custom installation, partition the drive(s) manually and set the old /home partition to again have the mount point of /home but do not allow it to be...

Administrative - barely. The positions I have applied for in the past were generally wanting an AA or better in computers or equiv.

  17. Re: Profit vs. Community for Linux Progam Developers

Actually, I'm not. Knowing that you can't really make much money when you offer the source code for free isn't the same as saying you CAN'T sell it.

Please read things more carefully in the...
  18. Re: Anyone else having issues with Empathy?

Personally, I avoid Empathy. Too buggy, IMHO.

I use one program for most IMs and actually utilize a browser for FaceBroke etc.

I've seen Empathy bork on MSN a lot, it's usually when MS changes...

  20. Re: Profit vs. Community for Linux Progam Developers

Open source is open. Porting it to another OS doesn't really change that.

Community is community. Profit is profit.

If you want profit, sell closed source software for Linux and port it for...

Prior to recently when this formula arose, it was opposite. Let me break this down for you too:
  24. Re: How much does a college degree really matter when it comes to the tech industry?

In your situation, you'd be crazy not to go to college - you have a free ride while gaining experience serving in the armed forces - it's a win/win.

For the folks without a degree, of which I...
  25. Re: How much does a college degree really matter when it comes to the tech industry?

First, I'd like to say that age does not inhibit the ability to offer an opinion or advice. In fact, I'd say the exact opposite - the older you are, the more you have to offer.

    That said, in this...
