I am a little more calm today and what I say is completely honest and thoughtful. I have been using Ubuntu for many years. I have nearly finished my backup and will shortly convert my machine wholly...
First, I can't get into MY computer!
Forget it - I give up - keep your ridiculous OS. This happens every time.
Yeah - know how you feel - same thing here.
You can expect more of the same though: I've been at this since GG...

I should have known better... JJ was working OK - OH WHY OH WHY DID I UPGRADE? It will be another few months of ironing out bugs...
Upgraded from JJ to KK after enduring (edit: should be...
Thanks everyone for the no ideas.
I went back through my old emails - found how I did it last time - i removed klogd - well that did it.
Thanks again Ubu Community - love your work.
Installed JJ and here we go again...
I had the this same problem with Increpid but from memory it was solved with a kernel update - why is it back?
Have a core 2 duo - CPU 2 maxes out to 100% -...
Well - I was originally having some trouble with (god knows what) and that involved vim to an extent - so I was looking for posts about vim - I saw this thread and couldn't have agreed more with the...
Is that directed at me? And can you speak a known language - what does"flame on" mean? Sounds agressive.
What is "Thread necromancy"; and don't be patronizing! - I may be new to Ubuntu but I'm not so new as to tolerate rudeness! All too often techy-heads, and anyone else who gets involved substantially...
I too have just updated to Jaundiced Jack and Transmission for the first time is closing down after 8 seconds - am trying to cut-back my simultaneous connections (8 secs at a time!) Otherwise JJ is...
OH yeah that - I forgot that...

Hey,
Are you running a 64bit system? I think that is important for this problem.
What exactly is the problem? Do you get the error "No talk daemon"? Or is it something else?

Well thanks for the help Ubuntu "community" (everyone is a community these days).
I am a TOTAL n00b - I love Ubuntu and am learning fast (the hard way) - I had...
Couldn't agree more - I HATE VIM! HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE
The next time a program installs itself with vi as editor, I am going back to Windows - a hollow threat (but I HATE VIM that much). The...
I was running an old machine with Hardy: I've upgraded to 64 bit Ibex (and a really nice machine).
When on Hardy - ytalk/talk would not inform me about talk requests - did what I could - added...
Next question: will I make it to the 2nd cup of Ubuntu :?:
I am an idiot - as soon as I posted this I noticed the problem - can you see it?

It was all so simple. I'd...
 HELP!
I did fix this problem on my last box / installation. I have just upgraded and also installed Ubuntu 8.10 Ibex, and the problem has returned, but now I can't fix it.
I am trying to...
Problem solved - I switched from crond to fcron and I could execute a program with a word - like "firefox" or "kaffeine" or "limewire"
Great - I'll use fcron from now on.
Correction - I am now getting +11MB/s speed in drop/drag copies - that is way fast for my old laptop. I think I launched Firefox in the background when testing it first time. Thanks again Roosty.
Roosty - thanks - I weep with joy. This fix worked - still a little clunky but at least it gets the file across! - my transfers got so slow they stalled half way and aborted the transfer - had to use...
